It's necessary to take a little action to switch your clock on this board between Standard Time and Daylight Savings Time. Do as follows:

1. Click on "My Controls" near the top.

2. Look for "Options" on the left side towards the bottom and click on "Board Settings."

3. Go to the "Time Zone" section at the top and look at the box that asks, "Is daylight savings time in effect?" Check it for Daylight Savings Time, or uncheck it for Standard Time.

4. Click "Change my Account Options" in the bottom right.

(Note: If you've been having time display problems all along, while you're there, make sure you've set yourself for the correct time zone. For example, Eastern Time is GMT minus 5 hours.)

Yes, thanks, Dan. It'd be nice if the board made the adjustment automatically, but unfortunately, it doesn't. Still a good board set-up overall, though.

BEWARE: Many Cafe posts reveal story endings or key plot twists without prior warning. There is no rule against this. But if you are courteous enough to post "spoiler warnings"--especially when you post in a thread unrelated to the story you are "spoiling"--many people will appreciate it.user posted image

Not everybody changes clocks, would that be the reason it isn't automatic? Or could it adjust knowing somebody lives in Indiana, Arizona, Hawaii, the rest of the world?

I'm always glad when this time of year gets here. I like the longer daylight in the evenings esp when it's 80+ degrees.

The latter was definitely possible. For example, the Windows control panel date/time setting allows you to choose your time zone, and among the options are Indiana, Arizona, and Hawaii (all different options). So if Forumer had had a little more foresight, it could have added similar options. (It does have Hawaii, but as a general time zone offset and not a special perpetual Standard Time situation.)

Part of the process would include a date calculation as to whether or not we were in the Daylight Savings time of year. Again, since Windows can do it, so could Forumer. This brings up an interesting point, though. Next year Daylight Savings is going to start sooner: March 11. This will create a mini-Y2K scenario, where much of the world's software won't be able to handle the revised start automatically.

By the way, all of Indiana is now observing Daylight Savings. This was a change for this year.

Hi,

I'm living in the UK and Daylight savings has kicked in. Problem is that I tick the box and it gets pushed forward two hours instead of one meaning its either an hour slow or an hour fast! Any ideas?

If its any help, Daylight savings in the UK works this way:

Goes forward 1 hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March
Goes back 1 hour at 3am on the last Sunday in October

Cheers!

Please tell me:

1. Your Time Zone setting in the Cafe.

2. Your local time relative to GMT.

I can then try these settings myself and see what happens. Then I'll get back to you.

I set my time zone to

(GMT) Casablanca, Dublin, Edinburgh, London, Lisbon, Monrovia

With the Daylight Savings box unchecked, that puts me at true GMT. With the box checked, I'm one hour later than GMT. That's the way it should work for you as well.

Right now, aren't London's clocks supposed to say that it's one hour later than GMT? If so, and you have the box checked and the GMT time zone, then your time should match the time in your neighbo(u)rhood. Does it?

Bumped for the end of Daylight Savings Time this weekend. I also revised the thread title and the initial post to cover both the beginning and end of DST.
